Stun Gun vs Taser - What Is The Difference

I resently considered purchasing a "stun gun" for self protection. I prefer to carry a non-lethal self defense weapon than a killing machine like a handgun. I don't want to be the cause of someone's death just because my attacker is too dumb, too lazy, or just too out of it to care what he/she is doing. A misfit to society.
I'm getting away from what I wanted to tell you.....Everyone I spoke to about purchasing a non-lethal but effective self defense weapon told me about "stun guns" so I decided to research what this non-lethal gun was all about. How did it work and how did it compare to other forms of self defense products.
This rapid work cycle instantly depletes the attacker's blood sugar converting it to lactic acid. In short, the attacker is unable to produce energy for its muscles and the attackers body is unable to function properly.
The stun gun also interrupts the tiny neurological impulses that control and direct voluntary muscle movement. When the attacker's neuromuscular system is overwhelmed and controlled by the stun gun, the attacker loses its balance.
Buy the way.....if the attacker should be touching you, the current will NOT pass to your body.
Stun guns come in all sizes, shapes and voltage. The best amount of voltage depends upon who you're talking to. Everyone has a different opinion. I'm told that the voltage can go all the way up to 1.5 million volts! There are also many known brand names to choose from.
After my research I thought that the stun gun was the non-lethal weapon for me. In going to a few gun stores, sporting goods stores, and pawn shops to see what was available, I found out that there's another non-lethal product that's even better than the stun gun.
It's call a "Taser" gun.
Before spending my hard earned money on a stun gun that I may not be happy with, I went back to researching about this Taser gun.
It seems that the Taser is a self-defense electronic control device.....well, so is the stun gun. I'm told that the Taser has almost 100% effectiveness rating, that it combines the injury reducing benefits of traditional stun technology with a quantum leap in stopping power via new Electro-Muscular Disruption technology.
When I asked some law enforcement officers about this, they stated that in their studies the Taser has a higher instant incapacitation rate than a 9mm hand gun.
Futher into researching about the Taser, I found that the Taser uses a replaceable cartridge containing compressed nitrogen in order to deploy two small probes that are attached to the Taser by insulated conductive wires with a maximum length of 15 feet.
50,000 volts travels over the wires and over-rides the central nervous system providing incredible takedown power. The energy can penetrate up to two cumulative inches of clothing. The Taser can stop a threat up to 15 feet away, allowing me a safe distance to protect myself and my family from an attacker.
In talking to one of the law enforcement officers, I was told that if a close quarter defense is warranted, the Taser doubles as a contact stun device to repel someone as a powerful and unexpected backup capability.
The real difference between the stun gun and the Taser gun, beside the takedown power, is that with the stun gun you have to be in contact with your attacker were as with the Taser gun you can be up to 15 feet away. I'd muct rather face an attacker from a distance of say 10 to 15 feet away from me than have to get up close and have contact with my attacker.
This is one of the main reasons I chose the Taser gun for my choice of a non-lethal carry weapon. The cost is a bit higher but what price can I put on my own life? As the commerical says....I'm worth it!
There are good points about both the stun gun and the Taser. You just have to decide which non-lethal weapon is best suited for you.
